Why do I see Derek thinking that on a daily basis?
Because although Derek would probably love to hate them (God help me it would probably make his life a whole lot easier), he wouldn’t even if it was a choice. Sometimes he just watches Logan flit from one guy to another, just watches as he starts to fall face and hard and so entirely that he’s long fallen over the edge before Derek could reach him in time.
So Derek waits, because although he doesn’t want it to happen for Logan’s sake, he’ll be there to reel him in if he gets too far.
Sometimes he thinks of just giving up because what the fuck is the point of this shit? but he doesn’t. He’ll get a flash of sepia eyes and tired smiles, of the same eyes softening and glistening with love that he sucks it all up, drinks another cup of coffee and keeps on doing what he does best.
Because Derek would protect those two til the end, and having failed to do so…
He’s never going to stop beating himself up for this, isn’t he?
